Team Update - #MagicMay
IRONMAN 70.3 St. Polton
Dean Hanwell and Anthony Mcloughlin were out in Austria taking on IRONMAN 70.3 St Pollen, hoping to battle it out for 7 coveted age group slots for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships. With this years championships taking place in Nice, the field at European 70.3 races are expected to be stacked, and it was no different in Austria, with the top 10 in the 30-24 AG split by 10 minutes and all finishing sub 4:24!
Both had a great swim (in the two lakes) exiting the water a minute apart. Dean put in a strong bike to put himself in contention, finishing with a superb 1:20:27 run to jump into 9th in AG in 4:21:45. Ant put in a solid bike, and battled through an ongoing Achilles niggle to finish an excellent 45th in AG just 23 minutes behind his team mate. An excellent weekend of racing for the guys, topping off the post-race celebrations with Dean earning a well-deserved World Champs slot! #Prost
Liverpool Rock’N’Roll
At Liverpool Rock’N’Roll Marathon / Half Marathon the team took on blustery conditions, with headwinds along the final 4 miles of the course providing a killer finish. Stephen Bennett and Alex Brennan were out getting in the miles again with Ben Sweeney supporting his father around the course for a top lad and dad day out in the half marathon. Chris Whelan took on the full marathon and earnt a well-deserved 18 minute PB after a consistent winter and spring of training! Chris finished in a super 3:20 in tough conditions.
Great Birmingham 10km
Ian Roche was in the Midlands for the Great Birmingham 10Km having qualified to represent England Masters. Ian ran a steady (by his own exceptionally high standards) 40:25, not bad while training for a debut at Challenge Roth in July! Congratulations Ian on your England vest, inspirational as always!
Anfield 100
On Monday Paul Martin & Baz Williams took on the historic Anfield Bicycle Club Anfield 100 Time Trial in Shawbury, Shropshire, for Mersey Tri. In blustery conditions, Paul finished the 100 mile course in 4:21:24, improving 18 minutes on his 2018 time with Baz also getting a 100 PB of 4:28:27
