Team Update - #MassiveMay
28th April - 5th May
The month started with a superb weekend for our run session regulars a the fantastic Liverpool Spring 10km. There were PBs for Alex Brennan, Paddy and Anthony Mcloughlin, with a massive 5 minute PB for Paddy and an elusive sub 37:00 for Anto with a superb 36:19!
In France, Tim put a recent injury behind him to tough out a solid 1:40 in Nice Half Marathon, meanwhile in the Cote d'Azur of the North, Ian ran his second marathon in 3 weeks to come runner up in his age category with an ever impressive 03:17:43.
After a fantastic 4th in AG and 26th Overall in the Standard Distance Duathlon at the ITU World Multi-sport Championships in Pontevedra, Coach Paul Martin was in action again in the Long Distance Triathlon albeit with a shortened swim. Paul had a good bike leg on a hilly course and a strong 30km run to finish 11th in Age Group and 52nd overall.
11th - 12th May
After a great winter, Stephen Bennett was out in Mallorca taking on his first IRONMAN 70.3. Stephen has been super consistent all winter and finished in a well deserved 6:06:26 ahead of his 06:30 target. Great swim, good bike and a hard fought-run (obviously drawing on the memories of some grim Thursday winter run sessions.
If the Mallorca bike leg isn’t hilly enough, you can always go and ride some Lakeland passes. That’s exactly what Matt Collins did, completing the BRUTAL 114 mile Fred Whitton challenge. With 3314 meters of elevation and some 27% grade climbs (You can also see in the picture below, he’s the only one not walking) , the sportive is as tough as it gets. Matt completed the course in an awesome 9 Hours!
Closer to home Dan Harbidge finished a superb 4th overall at the Cheshire Sprint Distance Triathlon, just missing out on a podium spot!
18th - 19th May
Another weekend packed full of racing, and another weekend of top performances for team members. Paul Williams took on the Outlaw Half Triathlon despite a heavy dose of Man Flu. Ever consistent, Paul dug deep to sneak in under the 5 hour mark yet again!
Paul Clarke and Dan Hardbidge took on the Chester Half Marathon . Paul took another 2 minute chunk out of this PB, while Dan ran a fantastic 1:20 on his half marathon debut…. not bad for a training run!
If recent 5km and 10km PBs weren’t enough, Alex Brennan flew the flag down south at the Hackney Half Marathon, and of course… ran another well deserved PB!
Team members Owen, Baz and Dan Dunnington were all in action at Southport Tri, racing in the standard and sprint distances as they prepare for Roth, Worlds and Half X respectively. A superb performance from Dan saw him take the 20-24 national title on the day! A super result, and well deserved podium!
